Acupuncture can help with just about any kind of pain. It does so by using a combination of techniques. We use acupuncture to release endorphins in the body and to release muscles that are spasming. We will also sometimes use a technique called cupping that helps the muscles to relax, or gua sha to release the muscles.
Do you put needles into the area where I have pain?
Sometimes we do sometimes we don’t. It depends on your situation. Usually, yes. Small hair like needles will be inserted into the affected areas. Often you will feel relief soon after the needles are inserted or after the needles are taken out. We will do everything we can to get you out of pain as soon as possible.
Why would I use acupuncture instead of pain medication?
Often acupuncture is used to reduce the pain so that you will not need the pain medication and help you get off of it sooner. Often the medication will dull the pain, but it is still there. Acupuncture can help to get rid of the pain altogether.
Would I use acupuncture for an acute issue?
Both. Acupuncture can be used in both acute or chronic pain scenarios. If you have an acute situation like a broken bone or car accident you should get treated by your doctor. After that, acupuncture can help get you back up to your normal activities and out of pain faster.
Does Acupuncture help with chronic pain?
Yes, Acupuncture is one of the things that helps very well with chronic pain. Unfortunately, Chronic pain sometimes means pain that will never go away. What acupuncture can do is help to alleviate the severity of the pain and keep it at a tolerable level. For example with arthritis, we will not be able to get rid of the arthritis because it is already there, but we can help to make it feel better and prevent it from getting worse.
